Stronghold Engineering is the recipient of two first-place awards for Excellence in Construction from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Southern California chapter.

The ABC distributes Excellence in Construction awards annually to celebrate and honor innovation, high quality construction projects, and safety programs both at a chapter and national level.

For their HVAC and Ductwork Repairs at the Naval Medical Center in Balboa, Stronghold won first prize in the Excellence in Construction: General Contractor > Federal Government/Military > Projects from $10 to $100 million category.

A portion of the buildings at a 272-bed acute care facility at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California that both treats patients and trains medical staff underwent modernizing renovations and repairs. Stronghold supplied temporary HVAC systems to ensure that hospital occupancy and critical operations could continue during the entirety of the renovations.

Similarly, Stronghold’s Owens Lake Dust Mitigation project won first place in the Excellence in Construction: Specialty Contractor > Electrical > Projects more than $10 million category.

The dry Owens lakebed in Inyo County produced a significant amount of dust pollution, until the completion of the Owens Lake Dust Mitigation project that reduced dust emissions from the lakebed and over 48 square miles of the lake’s beach. As part of the project, Stronghold installed 16.7 miles of direct burial of 5kV medium voltage cable and 15 sites, including 7 mechanical pump stations, 7 lateral valve stations, and 1 sand filtering station.

Their efforts to achieve excellence in quality control, maintain a set timeline, and overcome project-unique challenges during each project’s realization set Stronghold apart and contributed towards the winning of each award.

Stronghold was recognized for their notable achievements on November 6, 2020, at the Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction Awards Gala at the Marconi Automotive Museum and Foundation for Kids in Tustin, California.

As first place winners at the chapter level, Stronghold qualifies for the exclusive opportunity to submit both projects in ABC’s national program. ABC’s national awards ceremony will take place in March 2021 in Grapevine, Texas.
