GSA FRANK HAGEL FEDERAL BUILDING

GSA FRANK HAGEL FEDERAL BUILDING

Richmond, CA

The building complex does not currently meet the seismic safety standards. Steel moment frame, frame base anchorage, selected gravity systems, precast concrete cladding and auditorium roof will be modified to meet the adopted standards. In the basement and the 2nd and 4th floors, partitions and work stations will be removed around the steel moment frame and gravity columns to expose the column base and column splices. Cladding system improvements will be performed from both the interior and exterior of the building. This complicated project involves hazardous material abatement and will be performed in phases so as to allow for continued use of the building.

The Frank Hagel Federal Building, constructed in 1975, is located at 1221 Nevin Avenue within the downtown central business area of Richmond, California. The approximately 619,000 gross square foot building consists of six stories with a one story basement. The building has an auditorium, childcare center and both secured structured and surface parking. The building serves as the regional headquarters for the SSA who has been the sole tenant agency of the FHFB since its construction.
