VAN NUYS PROCESSING & DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Van Nuys, CA
Stronghold Engineering, Inc. served as the Prime Contractor for this $6.7M contract that called for the renovations to USPS’s existing Van Nuys Facility. This 230,000 square foot facility renovation included complete switchout and upgrade of existing electrical, data and mechanical systems to ready the building for a new Flats Sorting System (FSS), which is a complete automated system for sorting of all non standard mail, such as legal envelops, magazines, etc… This project also included the demolition of existing manned security system (LOGs) and replacement with new CCTV security system. All of this work was completed while the facility was occupied and operating at 100% of capacity. A very complex phasing plan had to be implemented to allow for switch over of complete communications, data and power systems to run the new facility and the automated sorting systems. Each of these systems were brought on line with max 24 hour down time, as Sundays are the only time this facility is not in operation.
