DESIGN BUILD PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM, TWENTY-NINE PALMS PROJECT

This $3.4 million fast track design-build project consisted of designing and installing 2,464 Sharp 235 W modules on five (5) existing vehicle canopy structures used to shade the Marine Corps tanks and armored vehicles at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twenty-nine Palms, California. This project is part of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, which aims to reduce carbon footprints through renewable energy. The locations of these vehicle canopy structures were occupied on a daily basis by the military necessitating strict coordination for the safety of the user group. This was a key factor to the project’s overall success.
