REPAIR DAMAGED COMMUNICATION LINES FROM 43 TO 53 AREAS

Marine Corps Base

Camp Pendleton, Ca

This project consisted of the design engineering and building of 12.7 miles of 4-4 PVC Schedule 40 Conduits in a concrete encased duct bank, and at times, bore drilled to miss existing utilities and culverts. This duct bank serves as the communications backbone for the NAVY and runs between camps along the roadside and within the roadway itself. About 50% of this project was installed in the road, where asphalt was removed and replaced, while maintaining vehicle flow. Stronghold Engineering utilized its large scale Vermeer track mounted belt trenching unit to install much of the inroad duct bank at a rate of 1,200’ per day of excavation, conduit installation, concrete encasement, and backfill. This operation requested 20 men per day in a closely managed environment to ensure the distances were opened and closed efficiently.
