REPLACE FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS BUILDING 1, 2 AND 3

Balboa Naval Medical Center

San Diego, Ca

Stronghold Engineering, Inc. served as the prime contractor for this $3.7M project that called for complete replacement of the existing fire alarm systems in Buildings 1, 2 and 3 at Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. The building is a fully operational, occupied facility, which necessitated that the new alarm systems be fully commissioned prior to decommissioning of the existing systems.

The scope of work included, all related system programming and testing, installation of a new analog/addressable fire alarm system, conduit, cable and wire installation, initiating devices, including smoke detectors and pull stations, demolition of the existing fire alarm system, notification devices, including strobes, horns and chimes, firestopping, drywall and painting and remote power supplies.

Personnel required for the project included 25 electricians and 15 fire alarm technicians. Because work was performed in occupied spaces, extra precautions were necessary to ensure the safety of personnel, hospital staff and patients. Any necessary power outages were scheduled in close coordination with users to ensure minimal disruption to hospital operations. Problems encountered included contract drawing deficiencies and unforeseen conditions. Stronghold promptly and effectively resolved all issues by working closely with the customer and other stakeholders.
