THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND REHABILITATION
SALINAS, CA
Project work completed for this client involved the new construction of four (4) separate buildings, and additions and/or renovations to eight (8) other facilities. Altogether, the project included over 25,000 square feet of revitalized health care space. This work was spread out among two California Department of Corrections facilities: the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) and the Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP). The facilities are located roughly 5 miles apart from each other in the town of Soledad, California. The project was part of the Health Care Facility Improvement Program (HCFIP) which was designed to remedy deficiencies in existing prison health care facilities.
All work was completed within a secured perimeter of an occupied prison facility requiring specialized logistics for daily entrance and exit. Each project site was broken into sub-projects and phases to mitigate disruption to the occupied prison. At the CTF, Stronghold worked closely with end users to build three new primary care clinics and renovate three specialty care facilities including a reconfiguration of the south wing to accommodate an emergency care center. The facilities constructed at this location included exam rooms, phlebotomy labs, and nurse stations, as well as minor surgery/procedure rooms and triage centers. The Salinas Valley State Prison consisted of similar additions and renovations to a 152-bed inpatient facility as well as a new OSHPD pharmacy, optical center, dental clinic, and mental health area.
Approximately 35% of all project work was self-performed. Completed work includes:
