Stronghold served as the prime contractor for this $3.2 million project that called for reconfiguration and alteration of outpatient facilities at the Eye Clinic and Department of Audiology at the VA Hospital Loma Linda, California. The facility was required to remain operational during construction and experienced heavy patient/staff traffic. Astute project management and scheduling ensured minimal disruption to the medical center’s normal operations while maintaining the highest level of quality control.

A phasing plan was developed with the acceptance of the client, to offer limited disruption of the affected areas without impacting critical patient care, while reducing construction time. Design documents were also prepared in a phased development to allow for a “fast track” construction process to move ahead with demolition and phased construction, while the design and engineering was completed.

The scope of work included renovations to existing MEP systems, removal and replacement of finishes and close coordination with Facility personnel to ensure existing operations were not impacted. Additionally, the scope of work required us to compress an already overburdened parking lot to carve out approximately 30,000 square foot of space to create this ground up addition to the hospital. It required extensive site coordination for all personnel and material to gain access to this area, while eliminating any disruptions to traffic patterns.

Stronghold Engineering, Inc. self performed all the electrical, concrete, and demolition work, as well as, the installation of the Negative Air Machines for the Infectious Control procedures. Astute project management and scheduling ensured minimal disruption to the medical center’s normal operations while maintaining the highest level of quality control. Stronghold maintained a zero accident jobsite during construction and received many outstanding letters of recommendation and outstanding performance evaluations for the work performed at the VA Medical Center.
