FIRE DEBRIS REMOVAL, AREAS 2, 3 & 4

San Bernardino, Ca

Stronghold Engineering, Inc. served as the prime contractor for this high priority, emergency response project that called for removal of fire debris at three flood basins in San Bernardino County, California.

During the summer months of 2004, unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County had been ravaged by the Old Fire and Grand Prix Fire causing damage ranging from minor to major to approximately 925 structures. The County divided the work into six contract areas in order to organize a neighborhood / community wide, cost-effective coordinated program for removal and disposal of debris from private property using a variety of funding sources. Stronghold entered into a separate contract with each property owner, who was responsible for paying removal cost.

The scope of work included site survey and heavy civil work, such as excavation and environmental cleanup. Prior to performing work with heavy equipment, Stronghold located all of the tanks and wells in the contract area to make sure that none of the existing septic tanks were damaged during removal. Stronghold coordinated all traffic closures with the appropriate agencies and provided traffic control and flagging during lane closures.

Stronghold was responsible for storage, transportation and disposal of debris after removing it from each property. Recycling was strongly encouraged by the County, and all debris was sorted into either a recyclable or a non-recyclable category. Burned vehicles and fallen trees were also removed. The quantity of debris excavated and removed totaled 400,000 CY.
