WASHINGTON, DC – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today announced that Stronghold Engineering, Inc.’s work on the Naval Coastal Warfare Group One Facilities in San Diego, Calif., has earned the company first place in the Pre-Engineered Building - $2-million - $99-million category of ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards. Stronghold Engineering’s representatives received the award June 18 during the 18th annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
“ABC congratulates Stronghold Engineering for its exceptional work on the Naval Coastal Facilities,” said Kirk Pickerel, ABC president and CEO. “This project is an outstanding example of the innovation and commitment to superior craftsmanship that embody merit shop construction. It is a pleasure to honor this project with the association’s top construction excellence award.”
ABC designed the national Excellence in Construction program to recognize excellent performance in the merit shop construction field. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. This year's competition was open to all construction projects completed by ABC member firms during 2007. The winning projects were selected from entries submitted from across the nation and were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
Crews worked safely in an active airfield alongside helicopter landings to complete this fast-track, design-build project to upgrade infrastructure and erect seven new metal buildings ahead of schedule.
A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year's panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the American Institute of Architects and National Institute of Building Sciences.
###
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association representing nearly 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 78 chapters across the United States. For more news and information, visit ABC’s website, www.abc.org.

World Vision
2008-02-15
World Vision
Approximately 1.1 billion people worldwide lack access to improved water supplies. More than 2.6 billion people - half of the developing world - have inadequate access to proper sanitation. Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a preventable, water-related disease. Most of these children are younger than 5, and a majority - 80 percent - are younger than 2. Contaminated water and poor sanitation are factors in 88 percent of all disease in the developing world - diarrhea alone kills 2.1 million children annually.
We at Stronghold are making a difference. On behalf of our employees, $18,000 was provided to World Vision in order to drill a deep well fit with a hand pump. This well can provide up to 2,800 gallons of safe water a day for as many as 300 people!
